The size of the attic
This is what matters most. Operos measures it on the satellite photo, from your address.
The insulation already in place
Insulation that is packed down, damp or old sometimes has to be removed before more is added. The year built, listed on the municipal assessment roll, gives a good clue.
Access to the attic
A small attic hatch in a closet takes more time than an easy-to-reach door.
Ventilation and mould
Black stains on the wood often mean the ventilation needs to be fixed at the same time.
The number and size of the openings
From your photos, or counted based on the size of the house listed on the municipal assessment roll.
Replace, change the sealed glass unit or caulk
When only the glass is fogged up, a new sealed glass unit (thermos) keeps the frame in place and costs much less than a whole window.
The range and colour
The price is based on white PVC with double glazing. A colour or a higher-end range is added only if you choose it.
The floor and the wall
A window upstairs or in a brick wall takes more work to install.
The size and slope of the roof
Measured on the satellite photo. The bigger the roof, the lower the price per square foot.
The roofing material
Asphalt shingles, metal roofing or a flat-roof membrane: each has its own price and lifespan.
What goes through the roof
A chimney, a skylight or a dormer needs new flashing.
The wood under the shingles
128 sq ft of damaged plywood is included. If more is needed, the expert confirms it with you before the work.

Where do your prices come from?
From real data. Our insulation and asphalt shingle roofing price grids are built from data we collected ourselves on thousands of renovation transactions carried out across different areas of Québec. Our doors and windows grid starts from Québec's public price guides. Each grid is the same everywhere in Québec, whatever the contractor. The method is explained in our price barometer (in French).

Who will do the work?
A contractor in your area who partners with Operos. Before passing on a request, Operos checks that they hold a valid licence from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ). You can also check their licence number yourself in the RBQ's public register.
What do you do with my information?
It is used only to prepare your quote. It is shared only with the partner contractor handling your request, with your consent, as required by Law 25.
